Hi! My name is Grace Mellette. I'm a senior at Texas State University. Specifically, I am studying in the college of Journalism and Mass Communication, on route to recieve a degree in Digital Media Innovation (DMI). I am also working hard to complete a minor in art with a drawing focus. With these skills, I hope to strike it big as an animator for childrens TV. My dream is to move out to California, where I could persue a close working relationship with Cartoon Network Studios. For now, though, I'm doing everything I can to make my dream more acheivable in the future.
Growing up, I was always drawn to animated TV shows. Even now, many of my comfort shows are animated. There's something so visually intriguing about animated shows that always draws me in; I love taking in the shows analytically to break apart the shapes and forms that move so fluidly on the screen in each artists distinct style. When I'm not analyzing the shows, I find them so digestible - that is, they're easy on the eyes and the brain. It wasn't until I found the show Steven Universe that I figured it out: that's what I want to do. I want to create meaningful, emotional shows that tackle some of issues of childhood that are becoming more mainstream to talk about. I want these kids to know that they're not alone in their struggle, and I want to convey my message in a visually stimulating, easy to comprehend sort of fashion.
For now, however, I'm simply putting one foot in front of the other on the pathway to my goals. As someone who has frequently been described as "chronically online," I spend a lot of my time on the internet. Being so fluent in culture and the language of the internet, I'd like to think I could do some really great work for a company's social media plan. My degree in DMI is teaching me all the skills, tricks, and must-have knowledge needed to handle all of the back end work that goes into running an offical social media. Until then, I'll keep sweating it out under the sweltering Texas sun with the rest of my fellow Bobcats as they all work towards their own individual goals.
