If I'm not at work or chugging away on school work, I'm usually sat at my desk immersed in a video game. There's something very calming and engaging about giving all of my focus and fine motor skills to a controlled enviornemnt that is not my own, specifically one tailored for enjoyment. There are many genres of video games, but I tend to find myself playing some more than others. While it's very hard to pick a handful of favorites - and impossible to order them in terms of how I favor one of the other - some games and their genres that I have found very enjoyable are:
| RPGs | Cozy Games | MMOs | Roguelikes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Far Cry 5 | Animal Crossing | Sea of Thieves | Binding of Isaac |
| Fallout 4 | Stardew Valley | Wizard101 | Slay The Spire |
| Legend of Zelda | House Flipper | Runescape | Plate Up! |
I could go on about these games and why I enjoy them so much for ages. Instead, I'd like to talk a little bit about another interest of mine: Dungeons and Dragons. A tabletop roleplaying game that made its debut in the mid '70s, DnD is making its resurgence in full force in popular culture today. I've been playing for around five years now. While I've had a few groups in that time, my current group meets once a week on Discord to play together virtually. With two of us out in Georgia, one of us in California, and the other there here in Texas, it's arguably one of my favorite ways to stay connected with some of my closest friends. Ask me about my DnD character! No, really. Ask me. Well, ask me at your own risk. For as long as I could go on about video games, I could probably talk about my kenku cleric and her adventures with a band of ragtag heroes even longer.
When I'm not gaming, one way or the other, I'm usually jonesing for a creative outlet. Often times this comes in the form of either creative writing nonfiction, or using my tablet to make digital art. While I've done much less writing than I like to do in recent history, I've done plenty of work drawing original characters, including our beloved DnD party. I've also been working on a webcomic with my best friend for the last four years or so. Together we've created a cast of characters and are working on developing a cohesive plotline before we begin fully writing scripts and drawing out panels.
